My issues page here is under construction.  There is a lot to talk about.  Some of the things on my mind are:

This section has been added by popular demand.  Someone from Westminster recently invited me to "take a stand."  Below is the e-mail I wrote to him in reply:

Dear Mr. Txxxxxx,

Thank you for taking the time to write.  Bravo to you for helping so many kids in their journey to adulthood.  I did not put abortion on my issues list, because it is not a criteria that I personally use when evaluating a candidate.  Here is my standard answer regarding my stance on abortion:

*****
Abortion is tragic. It saddens me that we, as humans, even have such a concept in our minds. My research indicates that women have voluntarily aborted pregnancies as far back as 1000 B.C. or before. Apparently, it is something that humans do, regardless of laws or court decisions. The Constitution is very specific about the role of the federal government, and abortion is not an issue for Washington, D.C. to be making decisions on.  I will say for sure that I would vote against having federal dollars--the people's money--pay for a woman to have an abortion.

That was a copy-and-paste directly from my Candidate Survey on the Adams County Republican web site.  You can get directly to my survey here:

or by starting at adcorepublicans.com, then rolling your mouse over "Our Candidates," clicking "Federal Office Candidates," then scrolling down to "Michael Deming's answers to survey," and clicking that link.

I don't have it all worked out, so I will probably come across to you as wishy-washy on the subject.  Life beginning at conception?  Wouldn't that obligate us to prosecute women who have miscarriages for involuntary manslaughter?  Fetus with no brain?  Why make the mother carry to full term?  (That actually happened to a couple we knew back in Indiana.)  If the woman or girl reaches the 2nd trimester and there are no health complications, I think she should carry to term and give the child up for adoption.  Third trimester viable baby--abortion starts looking like murder to me.  First trimester--well, I'm not sure about that.

Even if my views were 100% one way or 100% the other way, what could I really accomplish as a Congressman?  Even if my views aligned with yours 100% and I could pass whatever law you wanted, wouldn't our country still be on the path to tyranny and/or bankruptcy?  How do we account for pro-life war mongers?  It seems hypocritical to me.  I am anti-war, and I frown on abortion--how's that?

Thanks again for writing,

Michael
